| 1960 VAUXHALL VELOX Sept/Oct 2004 OWNER - KELLY
Built in Luton, England The Vauxhall's wrap
around windows were referred to as 'control tower' vision, giving a panoramic
view of the road. Two speed heater and 2 speed electric wipers. The higher priced Vauxhall was the Cresta, which had two-tone paint and interior, electric clock, wind-shield washers, padded sun visors and white wall tires. ------------------------------- Paul, Kelly's husband, relates the following story about the car he wished he owned, but never has: For me the Vauhall illness started back in about 1963 when my father, who worked in a body shop, helped me buy a 1955 Vauxhall.which had been in a minor 'fender bender', thus we got it for a good price. At that time, deep down in my heart, what I really wanted was a P.A.series Vauxhall, as they had always reminded me of Flash Gordon's Space Ship with the tail fins and roof shape. Unfortunately the P.A.'s were always out of my price range. A few years later, while attending a car event I found someone who owned a 1960 P.A., but it wasn't for sale at that time. As fortune would have it, in July of 1999 I ran into the same P.A. owner again at a swap meet. This time my luck was in, he told me he was going to sell the car as he had too many cars. When I got home I told my wife, Kelly, about the car, adding that I just had to have it. After many years of me and my many, many Vauxhalls, she knew there was no cure so 'we' bought the car. 'We', being the loose term, the car still does not belong to me, as Kelly bought it and is very proud to take it along to club events and cars shows, joining me with one of my cars. WE BOTH AGREE that this car is very dependable and a pleasure to drive, and together share in the enjoyment. |
