Continuation of Brits Round BC for Island people and any others who want to join us: Several people I have talked to want to continue our trip arriving back onto Vancouver Island on Saturday July 7. With this in mind I have created a possible itinerary for anyone interested as follows: Leave Pemberton the morning of July 5 for Gibsons BC – 3 hrs 30 min 166.3 km There are two potential activities along the way for anyone interested: West Cost Railway Heritage Park http://www.tourismsquamish.com/attractions/west-coast-railway-heritage-park Britannia Mine Museum http://www.tourismsquamish.com/attractions/britannia-mine-museum In order to get to Gibsons we need to take the Horseshoe Bay/Langdale ferry. This is a reservable sailing. It looks like there is a sailing at 12:10, 2:35 and 3:45 in the summer as well as many others, but one of these looks best depending on what you plan to do along the way. I should mention I found different times depending on the site I looked at so I don't think these times are cast in stone until closer to the date. I have blocked 10 rooms at The Ritz Inn http://www.ritzinn.com/ in lower Gibsons until April 30 for a few reasons – includes a continental breakfast, it is near the water and there are two recommended restaurant/pubs nearby. The rates are reasonable – in the 100.00-112.00 range with a discount if we get 10 or more bookings or if you are a senior or belong to BCAA. Please mention the OECC when you call. 1-800-649-1138 Pauline Hogg or Carol Leave Gibsons the Morning of July 6 to Powell River (126.1k 2 hrs 45 min) and/or Lund BC 151.8k 3 hrs 20 min) In order to get to our destination today we need to take the Earls Cove to Saltery Bay sailing. This is a non-reservable sailing. It is 76.3k or 1 hr 15 min to Earls Cove from Gibsons and the sailing is 50 minutes. From there it is approx 40-50K to Powell River. I would suggest the 10:35 or 12:50 sailing would work best for us. I have blocked 7 rooms at the Lund Hotel (all that is available as they have another large group coming in). http://lundhotel.com/ The rates run from $117.00 - $148.50 and do not include breakfast. You need to call between 9 and 5 Monday to Friday 604-485-6080 and talk to Nicol as the hotel front desk is not open until later in the year. These rooms at these rates are blocked until April 30. I have also been in contact with The Old Courthouse Inn in Powell River. This looks like a very interesting old establishment http://oldcourthouseinn.ca/ The Inn looks interesting, the rates of $99-120.00 include a self serve breakfast. If this one interests you call 1-877-483-4777. This is the oneRay & I have booked. Lund is a very interesting place and it would be fun to take the 10:35 ferry from Earls Cove and go directly there to be sure to get to the bakery for a late lunch date. If you have never stayed there it would be an enjoyable visit. Ray and I have good friends who live half way between Powell River and Lund on the waterfront. They have generously offered to host a BBQ for all of us if we are interested. I would expect the cost to run in the $10.00 each range. They have an awesome place on a point on the ocean. Often when we have been there we have watched eagles fish from a fir tree on their property. It is possible to go for a swim there as well. I do need numbers to assist in setting up this event. Leave Powell River for Comox Saturday July 7 The noon sailing works best. This is a reservable sailing. We will likely stop for dinner on the way home. There are several possibilities we can discuss as a group and then call ahead to reserve. Experience card with BC Ferries http://www.bcferries/experience This card is good on all sailings of the ferries and offers considerable discounts to all but the major routes. If you live on Vancouver Island and plan to do this section of the trip you will save a lot of money by purchasing this card.
