The first Part of the Trip - Victoria to Kamloops

News from BRBC - from Wagonmaster Rob Brodie:

At the time of writing Robert advised that they were in Kamloops, enjoying breakfast.

Thus far: On Thursday they had met most of the Central Island Branch members in Nanaimo, where some of the members had lunch. The rest of the group were picked up in Qualicum from where they travelled on to Comox. There were no major problems, only a couple of minor ones which were easily overcome.

In Courtenay supper was at the home of Frank De Carlo where a wonderful meal was prepared and a great evening had by all.
Friday morning every arose bright and early, breakfast was had at Plates, then they headed down the road to Lantzville to the Berties British shop for some goodies, after which they caught the BC Ferry from Duke Point Tsawassen. The Vancouver Coast Branch were waiting for them at Tsaswassen from where Robert describes the trip to Harrison as "an horrific drive through the Lower Mainland at rush hour'. They eventually reached Harrison where everyone ended up in the pub for dinner. The next morning the group convoyed up the Canyon to Lytton where they enjoyed a picnic lunch, then on to Kamloops with only one incident, a dead battery, which luckily happened at a gas station. The weather has been fantastic so far and 'today in Kamloops we will have 30 cars in the convoy."

News from BRBC: From Gerry Parkinson

We had a great day, today. We were joined by several cars from the Kamloops branch and they led the way on our drive from Kamloops out to Shuswap Lake. First stop was at a British Sweet shop in Sorrento BC, then off up a country road to a very interesting museum of all local farming equipment, and many gas station and household items.

It was then on to Salmon Arm for a picnic lunch at the beautiful Waterfront Park, followed by a tour along the lake to Canoe, and then back on the Highway to Enderby. From Enderby we headed back on country roads through farm country to the small town of Falkland. Then a scenic drive past Monte Lake, and back to the Highway for a straight run back to our hotel in Kamloops. Lots of winding roads, and everyone's car made it back to Kamloops without failure.

We had a wonderful dinner at the golf club organized by the Kamloops branch, and then back to the hotel for a parking lot /patio party under a beautiful sunset.

Tomorrow morning we are off to Green Lake for a picnic lunch, and then to Williams lake for a show and shine and overnight stay.

The Second Part of the Trip - Kamloops to Williams Lake

General update: from Gerry Parkinson

We left Kamloops at 9:30 this morning and headed along the beautiful Kamloops Lake and Thompson River to the town of Cache Creek. We then headed north through Clinton, to 70 Mile house where we turned off to Green Lake for lunch. The weather was overcast and all the cars with tops down got a few little sprinkles to cool them off. The rain held off (mostly) for our picnic in Green Lake. After Green Lake our Wagonmaster found another picturesque side road, so we did not have to retrace our drive, bringing us back onto the highway at Mile 83.

It was then off to 100 Mile House, the 108 Ranch, Lac la Hache and finally arriving in Williams Lake after a few construction zones, around 3 PM. Every one was out in the parking lot with hoses, soap, tire cleaner and chamois madly cleaning their cars (except for John Chapman, who claims he only cleans his car twice a year, if it needs it or not) in time for the show and shine at the Williams Lake Info Center. Fortunately, the rain held off again right until the end of the show and shine - or maybe the show and shine ended because of the huge drops of rain -not sure. Then it was off to the pub at 6 PM for dinner and lots of loud conversation. I hear there is a wicked Rummoli game going on down in the hotel lobby, and Mrs P. is losing, so must sign off.

Gerry

A certain someone who had battery trouble in Lytton, was having trouble with the fuel system yesterday. This is our most memorable view of him. We all have a trunk load of tools and spares, so it is very exciting to have something to fix.

We put on a show and shine at the Tourist information booth just off the highway in Williams Lake. There were lots of very nice local people to talk to, and we discovered at least two MG and a Jaguar enthusiasts. Maybe some new club members? There were two reporters present from local newspapers, so we should be a news item in the local papers.

Taken from the Tourish Information booth.
For those who may travel this way - this information booth is well worth the stop. Good to put on your list of things to do.

It seems that Mr Brodie's reputation has proceeded him. He is known as one dasterdly villian here in Williams Lake, and the likeness in the poster is remarkable.

Truly, truly, Remarkable!!

The Third Part of the trip - WILLIAMS LAKE TO PRINCE GEORGE
and ON TO VALEMONT

Leaving Williams Lake:

Half the group headed up to Barkerville and the other half headed up to see the Loran C tower installation near Williams Lake. This is one of three towers in Western North America that is use for triangulating the location of ships and airplanes. Many of the functions of this facility are being replaced by GPS.

Picture 1 is our group stopped by the Fraser River which was an absolutely gorgeous view.

Picture 2: Rob had his GPS on but somehow, we still ended up way down a dirt road, not headed toward out destination. The cars were all filthy with road dust but the view of the Fraser Plateau and the meadows and huge blue skies was spectacular. - picture failed will try again after dinner

Picture 3: We arrived at the Loran C site and recieved a very interesting tour of the facility. We had lunch there, and got pictures taken of our cars. One of the cars was having electrical problems and the Techs brought out their meters and battery charger, and diagnosed the problem, and then lined us up with a great shop in Williams Lake. The guys at the shop rebuilt the alternator on the spot, and diagnosed some wiring problems which they fixed. The hospitality in Williams Lake could have been better.

We left Williams Lake at 4 PM and we caught up with the rest of the group and were in Prince George in time for dinner at 7 PM. The Prince George Branch hosted us at a Chinese Food Restaurant. Great food and we had a whole party room just for us. After dinner Robin Fairservice presented and very entertaining talk and slide show on Jowett Cars and specifics on the Jowett Javelin.

The next morning it was off to Valemont, which is about 3 1/2 hours drive from Prince George on the Jasper Highway.

Prince George, we all have a new car to stare under the bonnet at due to the failure of a lower cooling hose. All was resolved in the morning with a new hose purchased and installed all before 9 AM.

Cars all lined up in McBride for lunch - it was going to be a picnic, but it was so cold we all went in for a hot bowl of soup

We thought Rob was in trouble with the local constabulary, but it turns out that Norm left his camera in the restaurant, and the nice Officer drove across town to return it to us - I guess work had got around about where we were parked by that time.
