Alistair and Lionel had really spiffed up the shop in advance of our meeting and it was really a show piece, complete with two beautiful MGBs (the red one on the lift was, well, WOW), Alistair's 1936 Morgan 4/4 (probably the oldest Morgan 4-wheeler in North America), two Alfas, a Model T, and two of Lionel's Citroen 2CVs, The turnout, numbering 42 or so, was our largest in a long time. Members enjoyed the coffee and donuts Alistair provided and the was a real pleasure. Thanks, Alistair and Lionel!

Map of Area - A glitch in planning (ours, not the museum's) meant that the museum wasn't open and our meeting had to adjourn to a nearby pub. We would have found a comprehensive collection of aircraft and artifacts illustrating this region’s long involvement with aviation. These range from replicas of WW1 aircraft, to a Waco biplane from 1930, a Douglas DC-3 transport from 1940 and a 1942 Hampden bomber. The collection moves into the jet age with a Vampire fighter, the all-Canadian designed and built CF-100, and the needle-nosed Lockheed Starfighter.

He was credited with 72 victories, making him the top ace of the British Empire in World War I. The facility has museum status and is very interesting. This is a social meeting with a meeting agenda that includes discussion of some of the innovations approved by the VCB Executive at their meeting on 4/21. We will also discuss and vote on locations for our annual Christmas dinner.

Teamster's Freight Transportation Museum and Archives

Early trucking in British Columbia was like nowhere else in Canada. Drivers had to deal with the heaviest payloads, treacherous mountain passes and the rawest weather conditions. That’s why every vehicle enthusiast should visit the Teamsters Freight Transportation Museum in Coquitlam. Their collection of trucks dates from 1914 to 1946. See the article about the museum in the September 2003 issue of Truck News.

We watched a very special video courtesy of Steve Diggins with some vintage Austin footage from the 1930s. It was incredible. The technology almost sabotaged us, but Pat Jones' resourcefulness saved the day. There are more videos on the DVD that we will watch at a later date. You won't want to miss these!

This was our Annual Christmas Holiday Dinner. Our happy hour was at 6:30 with the great dinner at 7:00. Everything was furnished for only $8 per person! What a deal - great food and an evening of socialization to celebrate the holidays!

Our September meeting was at the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley. Our club was invited to tour this outstanding museum and hold our meeting there. This was an opportunity to see this collection of historic aircraft at no charge, and we enjoyed it a great deal.

Intermeccanica International makes replicas of 1959 Porsche Roadsters and Speedsters. The tour took us all the way from frame building and body finishing to the finished cars which are beautiful.

Ohan Korlikian, give a talk and show a DVD on the highlights of his trip to Newfoundland last summer in a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine where Ohan entered the Targa Newfoundland in his Alpine. Ohan raised an incredible $11,500 for the Make A Wish Foundation!

Seabird Bent Glass makes custom windshields and we learned about the process. One of our members had an otherwise unobtainable windshield made for an Austin Atlantic at Seabird. It was a great program and our host was most impressive.

Larry Olson of Action Plating was our guest speaker. He gave an exceptionally informative program on chrome plating. His presentation included preparation for plating, the steps involved in a good job, and how to take care of the  plated parts of your car. If you weren't there, you missed a really good program!

We had a tour of the Redi-Strip facilities and saw the various dip processes they have for removing paint, rust, and grime from car bodies. There were several cars in process at the time. They also do abrasive  blasting. It was a very informative meeting.

Model and restored parts night - Seventeen members brought their favourite models and restored parts for the enjoyment of almost 40 attending. Models ranged from cars to ships, steam tractors, cannons and airplanes. Restored items included a bicycle and a wing (fender).

The Deeley Classic and Antique Museum is a special collection to see and experience. The Deeley collection is a unique story that began in 1914 with the establishment of Fred Deeley Ltd. Members of OECC enjoyed this outstanding motorcycle collection!

Ian Davey made an interesting presentation about the cars in their shop. RX AutoWorks is a quality car restoration business with a reputation for concours quality restorations. In the past three years RX has won several class awards at the Pebble Beach Concours.

John Fox and George Bird of Langley U-Blast hosted our meeting. They are a new business with seven large mediablast cabinets that can be rented by the ¼ hour ($18.75) or hour ($50), to do your own blasting. You can do glass bead blasting, walnut shell blasting, sand blasting, or any other type of media you desire. Their cabinets are big enough to handle most car parts such a fenders, bumpers, trunk lids, etc., so they are excellent for enthusiasts. They are very happy to help you, or work with you on any difficult projects, and were excellent hosts for the meeting.

We toured a professional auto restoration shop where we saw many interesting cars in the process of restoration, including a Jowett Jupiter and Triumph TR3A.

(NOTE: I joined OECC at the November meeting, after getting acquainted with club members on the Ladner to Bellingham All British Run the prior weekend. My records don't go back any further than this, but I'm sure you can see that we certainly have had interesting and varied meeting venues!)
